ALAMOSA – The season came to an ended for the seventh-ranked Monte Vista High School baseball team as it was defeated by third-ranked Las Animas 5-0 in the Class 2A State Tournament Saturday at the Runyon Sports Complex’s Andenucio Field.
The Trojans scored one run in the bottom of the second inning and they scored three more in the third. Las Animas added another run in the sixth.
Kaden Mellott went the distance on the mound for the Pirates and he took the loss. He allowed five runs and 10 hits and he had eight strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter.
Monte Vista managed only one hit as Jeremiah Baumgardner went 1-2.
Monte Vista finished the season with 19 wins and five losses. The Pirates return all but one starter for next year.
