Paul E. Widhalm passed away on March 7, 2024, at his home.

Paul was born in Monte Vista on Oct. 10, 1944, to John and Iris Widhalm. Much of Paul’s younger years were working on the family ranch in Monte Vista and Center. He was always involved in sports and played basketball, football, baseball, and softball. He graduated from Center High School in 1963. He then attended Adams State College and was a kicker on the football team, graduating with a BA in Science in 1968.

Paul began teaching in the Sargent School District after graduation. He had a true passion for firefighting and dedicated his life to that commitment. He served as a volunteer firefighter and as Alamosa Fire Chief. Paul served in different positions within the State Firefighters Association and served as President in 1983. He worked in the insurance business, working with fire departments and municipalities until his retirement.

Paul was active in the Alamosa Elks Lodge and served as a Past Exalted Ruler.

After retirement, he enjoyed hunting, golf, friends, family, and travel with his wife. He had a love for music and enjoyed singing.

Paul married Lois on Sept. 4, 1976. Together they combined families and raised three children. They also have six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his wife Lois; his children Kristie Reynolds, Lori Maul and Brad Widhalm (Trish); his siblings Tom Widhalm, Don Widhalm (Gwen), Mick Widhalm (Pat), and Billy Widhalm (Janet). He is survived by many nephews and nieces, as well as many cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Dale Widhalm and Ken Widhalm, and sisters Thelma Turney and Pat Malouff.

Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Contributions are suggested to the Alamosa Firefighters Association, on behalf of retired Fire Chief Paul Widhalm, P.O. Box 419, Alamosa, Colorado 81101 or to the American Heart Association and may be made here: https://www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give.
