ALAMOSA — On Monday, Angel Nieto pleaded guilty in two cases pending against him, one involving the death of his passenger in a January 16, 2017 crash on Highway 285 south of Alamosa.
Nieto, 32, had been charged with vehicular homicide for the death of Marcie Quintana, 24, of Alamosa, who was a passenger in the car he was driving on that date. On Monday, Nieto pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident involving death, a Class 3 felony offense for which he could be sentenced to 4-12 years in the Department of Corrections.
Nieto had been scheduled to go to trial on April 9 in the vehicular homicide case.
In an unrelated 2016 case also set for trial, Nieto pleaded guilty on Monday to violation of a civil protection order with an underlying factual basis of domestic violence.
Both cases are scheduled for sentencing on May 10 at 2 p.m.
