MONTE VISTA– Officials here are investigating a possible suspicious unattended death of a male party in the 700 block of Clay Street.
Monte Vista Police Chief George Dingfelder said officers were dispatched to the scene about 6:50 Thursday morning and discovered a deceased male laying in a residential yard. The Rio Grande County coroner pronounced the man dead.
Dingfelder said that while its early in the investigation to determine a cause and manner of death, MVPD detectives have initially labeled it as a suspicious death. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting in scene processing and assisting MVPD Detectives, but, until autopsy results are determined by the coroner, the cause and manner of death remains unknown.
The identity of the decedent will be released at a later date as well as additional information on the investigation when appropriate, Dingfelder said.
