ALAMOSA — Members of the American Legion, other Veterans organizations, Veterans and the public paid their respects to those who have served in the armed services and paid the ultimate price at a Memorial Day Service at the Alamosa Cemetery on May 26.
Monte Collins with the legion led the proceedings and said that on Memorial Day, "We have come together in our communities, cities, and towns to place flowers on the graves of those who have given their last full measure of devotion to our country.”
Collins continued, "Please reach out and find ways you can engage ways that you can be a part of caring for those who have served, it could be driving a Veteran to a medical appointment, befriending a Veteran who lives alone, or helping out in other ways."
The ceremony included Veterans from the branches of the military placing a flower and saluting the Dickey Springer Post 113 Post of the American Legion memorial at the cemetery. Inscribed on the edifice are the words, "For God and Country, In Memory and Honor of Veterans of All Wars. Let Their Valor Be Not Forgotten."
