It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mary Dereng, who peacefully departed this life on Nov. 13. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose warmth, generosity, and joy touched the lives of everyone she met. She was 78 years old.

Mary’s life was one of service, love, and devotion. She had a passion for arts and crafts, spending countless hours creating beautiful handmade treasures that brought joy to her family and friends. Her creativity knew no bounds, and her hand work will be cherished for years to come.

In addition to her artistic talents, Mary was a volunteer at Evergreen Nursing Home, where she offered companionship, comfort, and support to the residents. Her caring spirit made a difference in the lives of so many, and she will be fondly remembered by those she served.

Mary's family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Whether baking holiday cookies and cakes for family gatherings or preparing meals for her church community, her love for her family and her faith shone through in everything she did. Mary was a true prayer warrior, and her unwavering faith was a constant source of strength and inspiration for those who knew her. She could often be found praying for loved ones or quietly offering her support in times of need.

She also loved the simple joys of life — like running errands with her family, finding time to connect, and sharing laughter along the way. Her loving smile and kind heart made her a joy to be around. She was a great conversationalist.

Mary is survived by her sister Mary-Katherine Jaramillo, Brother Robert (Bobby) Waters, two Sons Canaan and Joseph Dereng, her grandson Joshua Dereng, her Nieces Katrina Romero-Jones and Carissa Montour, Nephew Anthony (Tony) Jaramillo.

Mary was preceded in death by Daniel Dereng (Husband), Ida Romero-Martinez-Waters (Mother), Joseph A. Martinez (Father), Martha & Anastacio Romero (Grandparents), James Waters (Brother).

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Nov. 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. (Rosary), 10 a.m. (Mass), where we will honor her memory and the incredible impact she had on the lives of others.

Mary’s love and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be dearly missed, but her light will continue to shine brightly in the lives she touched. Rest in peace, Mary. You have left a beautiful legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will always be remembered.
