Longtime Alamosa resident Mary Jane Gallegos, 83, passed away peacefully at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa on March 11, 2017.
Mary was born on June 11, 1933, the daughter of Henry and Felipita Arellano Griffin. She married Willie Gallegos on January 3, 1949 in Antonito, Colorado. To this union were born Shirley, Eleanor and Pam. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage until Willie’s death in 2006.
Mary loved spending time with her family and cooking. She rarely missed a yard sale and on occasion enjoyed gambling. She was a devoted Catholic and when she could no longer make her way to church, she would watch masses on television. Mary also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her children Shirley (Albert) Valenzuela, Eleanor (Al) Gonzales and Pam (Pat) Donegan, all of Alamosa; her grandchildren Jeremy, Bill, John and Jason Gonzales; her great-grandchildren Donovan, Joshua, Kayla, Presley, Kenzie, Jersey, Nina, Sophia, Joshua, Mathew and Nicholas; her brother Fred Griffin of Longmont, Colorado; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son William Gallegos, her sister Minnie Archuleta and her half-brother Alex Archuleta.
Cremation was chosen and a Recitation of the Rosary will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Inurnment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
