Antonito resident Martha Maria Lucero, 86, passed away July 27, 2017 at St. Mary Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, with her loving family by her side. Martha was born on January 2, 1931 in Mogote, Colorado, the daughter of Juan D. Ruybal and Agapita Gonzales Ruybal. She was united in marriage to Joe M. Lucero Sr. and the two shared a long and happy union until his passing. Martha enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, going to bingo and gambling, traveling. She loved playing rummy and spending as much time with family and friends as possible. She was an amazing, loving and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her daughters Theresa (Clarence) Painter, Charlene (Greg) Jones both of Frederick, CO; Priscilla (Jim) Billinger of Thornton, CO; Angela Velasquez of San Rafeal, CO; sons Joe (Wanda) Lucero of Commerce City, CO; Bobby (Arlene) Lucero of Arvada, CO; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sister Connie Lucero of Alamosa, CO; sister-in-law Edna Ruybal of Thornton, CO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents Juan Ruybal and Agapita Espinoza, husband Joe Lucero Sr., brothers Luis Ruybal, Cresencio Ruybal, Fedelio Ruybal and Tony Ruybal.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Monday from 1-5 at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito, who is in care of the arrangements.
