With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maria Elena Lozoya, lovingly known as Helen, at the age of 69. Born on Jan. 5, 1956, to Meliton Dominguez and Delfina Garcia Dominguez in Alamosa, Colo.
Helen was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Refugio Lozoya, with whom she shared 45 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a beautiful family that includes their children, Veronica (Augustin) Lozoya and Nicole (Christopher Salazar) Lozoya, and her cherished grandchildren, Delicia Lozoya, Draden Lozoya-Flores.
Helen was a proud member of a large and loving family, which includes her siblings Barbara Sisneros, Mary (Tony) Salazar, Theresa Reveles, Johnny Dominguez (Coleen Tabeling), and Della Dominguez (Andres Veleta), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Helen had a zest for life and enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including gambling, doing puzzles, cooking and going to pick pinon. She cherished the time spent with her family and found great joy in caring for her beloved cats, Pumpkin and Boots. Her grandkids were her pride and joy, and her radiant smile and vibrant personality could light up any room. Known for her big heart, she touched the lives of everyone around her.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Meliton and Delfina Dominguez, as well as her siblings Fred Dominguez and Patsy Garcia. She also mourned the loss of her son-in-law, Jesse Flores, nephew, Jonathan Dominguez, and her niece, Mara Duran.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, with Recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. with the Funeral mass to follow at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Alamosa, Colo. Inurnment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
