Maria Sandra "Sandy" Diaz

Posted

Our beloved Sandy passed away on November 28, 2022, at her home in Monte Vista CO surrounded by her loving family. She was 63.

Sandy was born in Del Norte, CO on December 13, 1958, to Jose R. Rivera and Maria A. Rivera and she had five siblings Charlie, Danny, Leroy, Beatrice and MaryAnn.

Sandy graduated from Del Norte High School in May of 1977 and pursued an education at Mesa State College where she later received her Cosmetology Certificate. Shortly after, Sandy ambitiously pursued and graduated with a degree in Accounting at Trinidad State College. Sandy later went on to work for the Colorado State Veterans Center where she whole-heartedly committed 25 years. She loved the residents and talked about them daily, even after retiring.

Upon retiring, Sandy began investing more time in her passions which included jewelry making and sewing, but above all Sandy loved being amidst family. In the summers you would find Sandy camping with family, going on four-wheeling excursions, and later cooking up something tasty. Sandy loved playing cards with her family and going to bingo with her sister Beatrice and her friends.

Sandy will be remembered for how immensely she loved others – especially her granddaughter Oralic whom she adored beyond measure. Sandy was a remarkable sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Those that knew her best knew that she would go to the ends of the earth for them. She would set you straight at times but she loved everyone so deeply.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Refugio Jose and Antonia Maria Rivera, her brothers Gaspar (Danny) Rivera and Leroy Sanchez and her niece Dawn Rivera.

Sandy’s memory lives on through her devoted husband of 17 years Anthony Diaz of Monte Vista, CO, her son Kevin DeMasters of Del Norte, CO, her daughters Trish (Frank) Archuleta of Del Norte, CO and Antonette Rivera of Alamosa, CO, her granddaughter Oralic Archuleta of Del Norte, CO, her brother Charlie (Elvira) Rivera of Del Norte, CO, sisters Beatrice (Frank) Hudson of Del Norte, CO, Maryann (Harold) Martinez of Colorado Springs, CO, sister-in-law Anna (Tony) Jorda of Cypress, CA, along with several nieces and nephews as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.
