With a heavy heart we are saddened to announce the loss of our beautiful angel, Maria Ida Vigil Salas, 87, of Los Piños, N.M./Española, N.M., who passed on Oct. 7, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rupertita Salas Lopez and Abran Salas; her siblings, Tino, Seje, Tila, Elsie, Beatrice, Delia and Lela Salas; her two sons, Chris and Johnny Martinez; her first husband, Leroy Martinez along with her second husband, Walter Vigil and her grandson, Joey Martinez. She is reunited in the gates of Heaven again with all of her angels she has missed dearly.

Maria had a heart of gold that was filled with so much love towards anyone she came across, she was able to lighten any dark room with her beautiful comforting smile. It was never a dull moment being surrounded by her; with her contagious laugh and bubbly personality she could have you laughing for hours.

Maria enjoyed the simplest of things, but her main joy was being surrounded by her grandkids and family. Maria was the foundation of our family, always trying to bring everyone together and keep everyone happy always. She also enjoyed going to bingo nights, crocheting, attending yard sales every Saturday, and cooking of course, which was her key specialty.

We will always remember her as a loving mother, a comforting grandmother to all her grandchildren, a devoted sister, a loving auntie, cousin, and a dear friend that you could always count on at any given moment that she would always be there. No matter who you were or what you did, Maria always saw the good in everyone she came across. We will forever miss and cherish every moment we have had with our dear beautiful angel until the day we reunite with her again.

Maria leaves behind her sons, Anthony (Carol), Joseph (Candy), Gerald (Tamara), James (Patricia) and David Martinez; along with her grandkids, Melissa, Adam, Todd, April, Aaron, Alysia, Brittany, Manuel, Mitchell, Nathan, Crystal, Johnny, Joseph, Susie, Michelle, Ashlie, Bobby, Zachary, Angelique, Derek, Leroy, Tyra, and Heather Martinez; along with her great-granddaughter who she raised and considered her as her own her own daughter Leanna Mendoza.

All funeral services for Maria will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, in Conejos, Colo. A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, in Conejos Colorado. Maria will be laid to rest at the Ortiz cemetery. A meal with the family will follow at the Parish Hall of Our Lady of Guadalupe church.
