ALAMOSA — Maria Angelina “Angie” Lopez passed away peacefully on April 13, 2019 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, Colo., surrounded by her loving family.
Angie was born on May 28, 1929 in Los Sauces, Colo. to Candido Salazar and Eugenia Gallegos Salazar.
She was a teacher for the Conejos-Costilla Head Start Program for 29 years.
She enjoyed praying the rosary, singing to her grandchildren, solving word search puzzles, practicing her cursive handwriting, reading, watching EWTN, novellas, movies, telling stories, listening to music and dancing. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and visiting with extended family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Marcella (Johnny) Duran of Romeo, Colo., Carmen Jaramillo of Alamosa, Colo., Daniel (Joyce) Lopez of Antonito, Colo., Paul Lopez of Alamosa, Colo. and Rosalie (Dennis) DePriest of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Priscilla Lucero of Pueblo, Colo. and Ophelia Espinoza of Fort Garland, Colo.; brother, Guadalupe Salazar of Northglenn, Colo.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Robert, Tomas, Phillip, Pauline, Julie, Jesse, Jeremy, Jamie, Jocelyn, Alejandro, Analicia, and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Nicholas, Natasha, Tommy, Emiliano, Isabella, Cassandra, Phillip, Ethan, Estrella, Helena, Delacroix, Sky, Angelo, Micah, Mikenzie, Kyson, Tayden, Jasmine, Luis and Roman; great-great-grandchildren, Emma and Ezepheal.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pablo Felix Lope; her son, Felix Robert Lopez; daughter-in-law, Cindy Myra Lopez; son-in-law, Jesse Maria Jaramillo; grandsons, Johnny Leroy Duran and Charles Michael DePriest; sisters, Antonia Gallo, Eloisa Naranjo, Elvira Marquez and Victoria Sandoval; brothers, Raymundo Salazar, Eusebio Salazar and Candido Salazar.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 16 from 1-5 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Home Chapel in Alamosa, Colo.
A vigil service with recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara, Colo.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on April 17 at 10 a.m. at the same church, with burial to follow at the New Conejos-Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa, Colo.
Care of arrangements has been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
