It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margie A. Garcia, cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend who left us on Jan. 25, 2025, at the age of 89. Margie was born on Sept. 30, 1935, in Mogote, Colo., to Cristobal and Eloyda Ruybal. She was the 3rd child born into this family of 9 children.
Margie met the love of her life and beloved husband, Jose S. Garcia, and they were married on June 2, 1956, in the San Rafael Pres. Church in Mogote, Colo. Their beautiful life together lasted 68 years. Four children were born to this union, Jimmy Garcia, Loyda Garcia, Felix Garcia and Lydia (Garcia) Authement.
She was an educator for 30 years who taught P.E., History, Government, and Civics at Antonito schools. She received her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees at Adams State College. She attended Western State University in Gunnison while working on her Counseling degree and was a counselor with Centauri School District. She was inducted into the Who's Who of Colorado Educators along with our father.
She enjoyed embroidery, sports, especially baseball, traveling with her sisters to watch the Chicago Cubs, visiting Washington D.C., and to Las Vegas, Nev., with her family, playing Scrabble with her sisters, reading her Bible, books, magazines and keeping up with the news. She was a very faithful person, loving to go to church. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women's group which met to plan bazaars, donate to charity groups, have fellowship, read scriptures and enjoy lunch. She also helped with Vacation Bible School.
She always loved being with her family, visiting or being visited by family members. Her joy knew no bounds when her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. She spear-headed the restoration of the San Rafael Presbyterian Church in Mogote, Colo. Work started in 1999 and was completed in 2010 and is still used today as a place of worship, fellowship, memorial services and hymn sing-alongs. She loved the joy people had while attending services and activities at this church. This was a labor of love.
She was preceded in death by parents: Cristobal and Eloyda Ruybal, sisters: Elaine Martinez, Rebecca Boak, Lorraine Romero, Sally Ruybal, her son Jimmy Garcia, grandson, Dane Authement and nephew Anthony Madrid.
She is survived by husband Jose. S. Garcia, daughters Loyda Garcia, Lydia Authement, (Rick) son, Felix Garcia, (Susan Garcia), sisters: Theodora Madrid, Cristina Duran (Martin Duran), Chris Ruybal (Carol Ruybal) and Rica Ruybal; grandchildren: Skylar Authement, Stacey Garcia (Adam), Felix Garcia Jr. (Nicole), Sydney Salazar (Danny), Jaymie Garcia and Evan Garcia; geat-grandchildren: Kaleb Garcia (Araceli), Isabella Garcia, Jude Garcia, Danny Salazar Jr., Journi Salazar, Jasper Hobbs, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
