Our dear mother Margaret M. Trujillo, a resident of La Jara, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly in her home on November 10, 2022, at age 86. As family and friends hear the news of Margaret’s passing, the common sentiment expressed by those who knew her well is “how much she loved her kids and grandkids.” Margaret is survived by her children: Michael Trujillo, Elizabeth (Brian) Anderson, Laura (Brian) Jackson, and David (Jennifer) Trujillo. Her grandchildren: Tanner, Emily, Eric, Claire, Luke, Sophia, Ellie, and former husband Richard Trujillo. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Leo Chavez, and sister Leola Miller.
Margaret, who friends and family lovingly referred to as “Margie,” was born in Denver, Colorado on May 13, 1936, to Joseph and Ruby (Rivera) Chavez. She spent her childhood growing up in a beautiful area west of La Jara owned by her family. Margie often shared fond memories of caring for the animals on the farm and spending time with family. She graduated from St. Scholastica Academy in Canon City, Colorado. After high school she seized the opportunity to move to Denver, attend secretary school, and live with her favorite Aunt Matilda. She later married Richard Trujillo and accompanied him to Fort Niagara, New York where he was stationed in the Army. They returned to La Jara to start and raise their family. Margie also played an important role in her community, working for many years at the Capulin Post Office until she retired in 2019.
Family meant everything to Margie, and she dedicated her life to raising her children. Her many nieces and nephews, who loved her and graciously and generously looked out for her in different ways over the years, also held a special place in her heart.
Margie’s dedication to her Catholic faith and her trust in the Lord was evident by her perseverance, strength, and selflessness. We are comforted knowing her soul is truly at rest. Her kind and gentle spirit will be greatly missed.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin, Colorado beginning with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at the Capulin Cemetery.
