ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Police Department (APD) was dispatched to Burger King, 2501 Main Street in Alamosa, at about 8:30 on Friday morning where staff reported a male had locked himself in the bathroom and would not come out. The staff noticed water coming from under the door.

The subject was later identified as Dare Mezidor, 22, of Alamosa.

APD officers and co-responders arrived on scene where they attempted to communicate with Mezidor for more than 30 minutes. Mezidor then broke off communication and gained access to the ceiling where he reportedly caused extensive damage.

APD officers and co-responders continued over the next hour to get him to surrender peacefully but Mezidor, who was still in the ceiling, began kicking the outer wall where he created a large hole.

After further communication, he surrendered and was taken into custody.  Damage is estimated at over $50,000.

Mezidor was transported to the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center to be medically cleared before being booked into the Alamosa County Jail. While being secured in the patrol car for transport, he bit an APD officer, causing serious injury to the officer's left arm. He also caused significant damage to a patrol car by kicking the door and window while he was being transported.

Mezidor was booked into the Alamosa County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary; second-degree assault on a police officer; two counts of criminal mischief; resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.

APD was assisted by the Alamosa Fire Department, State of Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, and the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office.
