Lucy V. Salazar, 90

Lucy Salazar, 90 well know and lifelong resident of La Jara passed away December 17th at San Luis Valley Health surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Patrick Salazar and they were married for 64 years.

Lucy was born in La Jara, Colorado in 1927.  She was the daughter of Jose and Lucrecia Martinez de Marquez.  She was employed by many local businesses  that included; La Jara Pharmacy,  La Jara National Bank,  Dr. Dale Thomas, the town clerk of La Jara, and reporter for both the La Jara Gazette and the Valley Courier.  She was also an active member of the Conejos County Hospital Auxiliary, St. Joseph Parish, Christian Mothers, member of Saint Monica, and was in charge of the Christmas lights for the town of La Jara.  She was loved by so many and will be remembered for her love of her family, friends, community, and delicious homemade meals.  Lucy will always be remembered affectionately as “Nana” by many.

She is survived by her children Patty Salazar (Steve) Archuleta, Tom (Jean) Salazar, Gloria Salazar; grandchildren Patrick (Lisa) Pena,  Nicole (Lawrence) Atencio,  Adam Pena,  Deserae Mora , T-Jay (Amber) Salazar,  Jocelyn (Mitchell) Buhr,  Danielle (Logan) Deckare, Jordan Archuleta; and 12 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Patrick, both her parents, and other loving family members.

A Rosary will take place Thursday, December 21st, at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of the Valley in La Jara.  Funeral services will take place December 22nd, at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Valley. Graveside services will take place following funeral service.
