With a heavy heart we announce the passing of our sweet Luci Atencio. Luci was called home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2024, She passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family. Luci was lovingly welcomed into the world on Aug. 13, 1938, in Trinidad, Colo.; the daughter of Willie Atencio Sr., and Cordelia (Romero) Atencio. 

Luci worked for the Alamosa Hospital for many years, she loved to be around people and meet new people. She was devoted to her faith. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. In her free time, Luci enjoyed playing piano, singing, dancing, praying the Rosary, and watching Westerns with her little dog friend Amigo. Her most cherished thing to do was spending time with her children, and all of her grandchildren. They were her biggest blessing. 

Luci was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Cordelia Atencio, brothers John (Lee) Atencio, Willie Jr. (Mercy) Atencio husband Richard Atencio, daughter Laverne Atencio, sons Richard Moses, Clifford Atencio granddaughter Luci Mae Atencio, son-in-law Herold Salazar. 

Luci will live on through her twin sister Alice (Robert) Espinoza, children, daughters Mary Kay Atencio, Sharon Salazar, Gloria (Chris) Vigil., grandchildren Lenny, Maurita, Richard, Nina, Amanda, James, Michael, Paul, Deidra, Latisha, Robert, Angelo, Sheree, Kevin, Kieanna. She is also survived by 37 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow Ortiz Cemetery.
