Romeo resident Lionel E. Espinoza, 74, passed away June 15, 2018 at the family farm in Romeo, doing what he loved. Lionel was born on June 22, 1943 in Romeo, Colorado, the son of Juan E. Espinoza and Solidea Romero Espinoza. He was united in marriage to Rosalie Lucero and the two shared a long and happy union for 55 years. Lionel worked many years as a miner and enjoyed being current on global news and events as well as keeping up with the stock market. Lionel was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed building things with his hands, carpentry, family projects and activities, going fishing and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was extremely close to both his immediate and extended family. He was a devoted catholic and was involved in church activities. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Rosalie Espinoza of Romeo, CO; daughters Cindy Chavez of Westminster, CO; Debbie Ennis (Alex Zubiate) of Colorado Springs, CO; Karen (Trevor) Wieman of Windsor, CO; Jessica (Michael) Hinton of Thornton, CO; grandchildren Megan Chavez, Lindsey Chavez, Katelyn Chavez, Maisy Wieman, Tyler Wieman, Ethan Hinton, Lexie Hinton, Braydon Hinton, sisters Lucy (George) Martinez of Romeo, CO; Marbella (John) Trujillo of Denver, CO; Virginia (Dave) Stuber of Alamosa, CO; Irene Espinoza of Aurora, CO; sister-in-law Virginia Espinoza of Leadville, CO; brothers Otto (Elva) Espinosa of Layton, UT; and Walter (Laura) Espinoza of Alamosa, CO. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lionel was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Solidea Espinoza, son-in-law Michael Chavez and one brother Enios Espinoza.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa. Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa. The arrangements have been placed in care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
