ALAMOSA – Tim Yount released his ninth On the Mat high school boys wrestling rankings last Thursday prior to last weekend’s competitions.
Several San Luis Valley competitors are listed in this week’s rankings.
Class 3A
Centauri remains the only local school in the Class 3A team rankings as the Falcons dropped from fifth to sixth.
Brush is still the top-ranked team followed by Mullen, Eaton, Jefferson, Gunnison, Centauri, Severance, Fort Lupton, Valley and Pagosa Springs.
Alamosa
The Mean Moose have four ranked wrestlers. Jeremiah DeLaCerda is fifth at 106 pounds, Anthony Griego is sixth at 126, Anthony Meder is sixth at 113, and Dyson Woodward is eighth at 138.
Centauri
Nine Falcons are in the rankings and they are led by Josh Polkowske who is at the top of the 190-pound standings.
Also ranked for Centauri are Riley Valdez who is second at 126, Caden Casias who is third at 113, Matthew Salazar who is third at 106, Parker Buhr who is fifth at 157, Spencer Smith who is ninth at 165, Aundre Chavez who is 12th at 120, Troy Munson who is 13th at 150, and Skylar Montague who is 15th at 215.
Class 2A
Two local teams are in the Class 2A rankings with Center and Monte Vista maintaining the fifth and ninth position, respectively.
Cedaredge is the new No. 1-ranked team followed by Wray, Meeker, Mancos, Center, Buena Vista, Sedgwick County/Fleming, North Fork, Monte Vista and Dolores Huerta.
Antonito
The Trojans currently have no ranked wrestlers.
Center
The Vikings have eight grapplers in the rankings. They are led by Aaron Valadez who has returned to the top of the 144-pound standings.
Other ranked Center competitors include Martin Palma who is third at 165, Jordan Duran who is fourth at 113, Jesus Valadez who is fourth at 175, Andre Meraz who is seventh at 138, Francisco Villa who is 11th at 132, Caden Ruggles who is 13th at 150, and Michael Archuleta who is 14th at 113.
Del Norte
Only one Tiger is ranked in Paul Neal who is 12th at 150 pounds.
Monte Vista
The Pirates have four ranked wrestlers including Kevin Cisneros who is second at 150, Jeremiah Baumgardner who is fourth at 157, Jacob Pacheco who is seventh at 165, and Elijah Baumgardner who is 10th at 132.
Mountain Valley
There are no Wolves currently in the rankings.
Sargent
The Farmers have one ranked wrestler in Matthew Voss who is 16th at 132 pounds.
Sierra Grande/Centennial
There is one Panther in the rankings in Diego Rodriguez who is 15th at 113 pounds.
Girls
Tom Blair of InsideCoWrestling also released his ninth girls wrestling rankings on Thursday with four locals being mentioned.
Alamosa
Three of the ranked girls are from Alamosa. The Lady Mean Moose are led by Sarah DeLaCerda who has assumed the top spot at 110 pounds.
Also ranked are Gizelle Meraz who is fifth at 115, and Samantha Maestas who is 10th at 120.
Monte Vista
The Lady Pirates have one ranked competitor in Alyssa Campos who is third at 130.
Regional tournaments are this week
The local teams will compete in regional tournament on Friday and Saturday.
The Alamosa boys will travel to The Classical Academy in Colorado Springs for the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament, and Centauri will be in Gunnison for the Class 3A Region 3 tourney.
Monte Vista will host the Class 2A Region 4 Tournament. Also at this tourney are Antonito, Del Norte, Sargent and Sierra Grande/Centennial.
Mountain Valley will be at the Class 3A Region 2 tournament in Rocky Ford.
The Alamosa, Del Norte and Monte Vista girls will travel to Lamar for the Region 4 tournament, while Mountain Valley’s girls will travel to Grand Junction for the Region 3 Tournament.
