It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Larry "Herbie" Allen Ortiz, a lifelong resident of Alamosa, passed away peacefully at his home on June 10, 2025, at the age of 70. Known for his warm spirit and generous heart, Herbie touched the lives of many throughout his years.
Herbie was passionate about his hobbies, which included driving his beloved Corvette, traveling in his motor home, restoring classic cars, cooking, and camping in the great outdoors. He also had a great love of New Mexico music, especially Al Hurricane.
He found the utmost joy in helping others and cherished socializing with friends and family. Herbie was a stranger to nobody.
Herbie’s work at Gosar Sausage was a very significant part of his life, where he formed lasting friendships and was loved and respected by all his colleagues.
He is lovingly survived by his mother, Emma Ortiz; siblings Dennis (Dawn) Ortiz, Luke (Bok-Hee) Ortiz and Sandra Beheiry; nephews Gage Gonzales and Lucas Ortiz; and great-nephew Cameron Ortiz and great-niece Marci Ortiz.
Herbie was preceded in death by his father, Lucas Ortiz, and niece Chanell Ortiz.
Family, friends, and community members are invited to attend a rosary service on Thursday, June 19, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, with a Mass to follow. A burial service will be held privately by the family at a later date.
Herbie’s vibrant spirit and kind nature will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
