Lifetime Alamosa resident Larry Duane Hunter, 70, died Aug. 12, 2023, at the Pikes Peak Hospice at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs with family by his side.
Larry’s life began on Dec. 18, 1952, in Alamosa, Colo., the son of Robert Hunter and Eloise (Brown) Hunter. He married the love of his life, Hilda Wade, on Jan. 25, 1991, also in Alamosa. They enjoyed more than 32 years together. Larry served in Germany and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He took pride in his service, and very much enjoyed serving his country.
Larry worked for a time at Big “A” Valley Auto Parts in Alamosa, and later worked until his retirement, after almost 20 years, for Trinidad State Junior College in Alamosa. He was a family man and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family members. Larry always had a joke or comment even if it was a bit inappropriate. He loved to go fishing, his guns, and watching old movies, especially old westerns. He was a good cook and is remembered for his exceptional noodles.
Larry is survived by his wife Hilda Hunter of Alamosa; his children Brett (Nikki) Hunter of Alamosa and granddaughter Aspen Hunter; Heath Hunter of Commerce City, Colo.; Wesley Hunter of Albuquerque, N.M.; Robert (Carrie) Hunter of Farmington, N.M., and granddaughter Kellie Hunter; and Tammie Hunter of Albuquerque, N.M.; his grandchildren Keith Duran, Micha Duran, and Chad Roberts; his siblings Linda Damewood of Kentucky, and Donnie Hunter of Arizona; his sisters-in-law Rena Hunter, and Lori Hunter, both of Alamosa, Colo.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law Olie and Joan Wade; his daughter Kristal Roberts; and his siblings Harold Hunter, Ronnie Hunter, Bobby Hunter, and Darrell Hunter.
Cremation was chosen, and a Celebration of Life will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. Interment with military honors will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
