The Alamosa High School softball team had a 3-2 lead early in its game with La Junta Tuesday at the Lee Sports Complex. However, the Lady Mean Moose couldn’t hold the lead as they lost to the Lady Tigers 7-3.

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School softball team had a 3-2 lead early in its game with La Junta Tuesday at the Lee Sports Complex. However, the Lady Mean Moose couldn’t hold the lead as they lost to the Lady Tigers 7-3.
La Junta drew first blood early with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Makenzee Pounds drew a walk and stole second. She came home on Hunter Wallace’s single.
Wallace also stole second and advanced to third on an error. Wallace s cored on Justina Ocanas’ groundout for a 2-0 lead.
Alamosa scored all of its runs in the bottom of the first. Araceli Molina singled with two outs, and Lexany Heredia also singled to give the Lady Moose runners at first and second. Alicia Rios then drove home Molina with a single, and an error in the outfield allowed both Heredia and Rios to advance to the next base.
Addison McCarroll then singled home Heredia and Rios for a 3-2 Alamosa lead.
The score remained 3-2 until the top of the third when the Lady Tigers tied the score. Yilani Garcia singled, stole second and came home on Wallace’s single.
La Junta regained the lead in the top of the fourth. Izzy Marmolejo led off with an infield single and came all the way around to score on Livia Smith’s triple.
Alamosa put a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, however, it could not bring either runner home.
The Lady Tigers then put the game out of reach by scoring three runs in the seventh. Garcia reached on an infield single and she stole second and took third on an error. Pounds then tripled home Garcia, and Pounds came home on another infield single by Wallace.
Ocanas was safe on an error and Wallace scored on the play.
The Lady Mean Moose went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Olivia Castillo went the distance as Alamosa’s pitcher and she took the loss. She allowed seven runs and nine hits. She struck out three and walked two batters.
Alamosa managed eight hits and was led by Molina who went 2-3.
Alamosa (9-6, 2-2 Tri-Peaks League) will travel to Pueblo on Thursday to face Dolores Huerta Prep. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
