ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School girls basketball team concluded its time at the Erik Melgoza Shootout on Saturday as the Lady Mean Moose scored a 50-21 win over Buena Vista at the AHS gym.
Alamosa took an early 6-0 lead on layups by Morgan Ortega, Arreli Felix and Audrina Knorr. Adeline Smith put the Lady Demons on the board, but Ortega made a 3-point basket, followed a Kadie Hawkins layup. Vanessa Villalva made one of two from the line, and Aubrey Rothermich made a jumper and added a free throw for a 15-2 advantage.
The Lady Demons got a three from Macy Reavis and a free throw from Daisy Lubbers to cut the Alamosa lead to 15-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Mean Moose scored the first six points of the second quarter as Ortega split at the line and also made another trey. Hawkins made two free throws for a 21-6 lead.
Smith drained a three, but Hawkins made a layup, and Ortega made two free throws for a 25-9 lead at halftime.
Felix opened the second half with two free throws, and Knorr drove for a layup to give Alamosa a 29-9 lead.
Lubbers and Bailey Turner both made threes, but Emmalie Quintana buried a three of her own. Smith split at the line, but so did Alexia Montoya and Ortega and Alamosa led 34-16 at the end of the third quarter.
Felix started the fourth quarter with a pair of free tosses, and Villalva and Ortega both made threes. Ortega made one of two free throws, and Knorr made a layup and added a free throw. Leela Gutierrez made a layup to give Alamosa its largest lead of the game at 48-16.
Reavis ended the run with a three, and Taya Martinez scored a layup. Kamryn Moeller wrapped up yje scoring with a layup.
Ortega led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Knorr with seven, and Felix and Hawkins both with six.
Reavis and Smith led Buena Vista in scoring with six points apiece.
Alamosa (2-0) will travel to Greeley for the University Invitational. It will open the tournament against Middle Park beginning Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at University High.
