Juanita Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Holmes

Former Valley resident Juanita Elizabeth “Beth” Holmes, 92, passed away on Dec. 15, 2022, in North Platte, Neb.

Beth was born to Willie “Woody” Woodall and Clara Ida Griggs on March 3, 1930, in Hardeman County, Texas, near Goodlett, Texas. She was welcomed home by her big brother Howard “Woody” Woodall and Marjorie Helen Woodall Rogers, sister Barbara Ann joined them 5 years later. She spent her childhood living in the Texas Panhandle.

In 1942 the family moved to Bountiful, Colo. During the school year in 1942, she worked in the fields helping harvest sugar beets, during which time she cut off one of her fingers. She was proud of her contribution to the war effort.

On Nov. 28, 1947, she married Edmond Rogers Holmes in Taos, N.M. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before his death in December of 1997. During their marriage they lived in New Mexico, Colorado and Texas before moving back to Bountiful in 1981. After Eddies death, Beth moved to North Platte, Neb. Beth loved her family, friends and George Strait. She was a lover of any Texas Tech sport and Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs football.

Beth loved sewing and doing counted cross stich or any other handwork. Many of her family and friends will treasure gifts of her quilts or embroidery pieces. She fueled that love of crafting onto her grandchildren. She taught them the how to create with a needle and thread, yard and hoops. She was funny and sassy and loved big for such a tiny lady. She attended North Platte Berean Church but loved to attend 1st Baptist in Lubbock with her son and held the Church of Jesus Christ in La Jara, and Manassa close to her heart.

Left to miss her are her children Gretta Curry of Los Lunas, N.M., and her children Lori Clark and her three children, Mike (Diane) Curry and their two daughters, and Karen (Tom) Dooley and their son, Roger Holmes of Lubbock, Texas and his children Jonathan (Brittney) Holmes and their three children, Jennifer (Brandon) Hughes and two children, Dee Brewer and daughter Ali and her son, and Ruth (Doug) Chadwick and their children, Bryan and his three children, Patrick (Cindy) and two daughters, Rebecca (David) and their three daughters, Holly and Tracy (Keno) Moreland and their two daughters, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, and many dear nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Eddie, her parents, brother Woody and sister Margie, grandson Steven Curry and a multitude of other family and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, at the La Jara Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Interment will follow services in the Manassa Cemetery. To express condolences, please visit www.rogersfunerals.com.
