John O. Gasper

Monte Vista resident John O. Gasper, 70, was called home on Jan. 14, 2023. He passed away peacefully at his home under hospice care, surrounded by his loving family. John was born on Jan. 22, 1952, the son of John George Gasper and Alice Louise Ratliff Gasper.

After he graduated high school, he went on to obtain his certification to become a police officer. John worked for many years serving and protecting the people of the communities he served. He was a member of the Police Officer Association as well as the NRA.

When he did have free time, John enjoyed building race cars and trucks, going fishing and being outdoors. He was a collector. He had an impressive collection of cars, knives and guns. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife Maria Rita Gasper of Monte Vista, Colo.;  sons Jesus (Sarah) Gasper of Monte Vista, Colo.; John James (Lisa) Gasper of Illinois, Jason Russel (Kim) Gasper of Tennessee; grandchildren Sonrisa Gasper, Taylor Gasper, Jaucelyn Gasper, Danyon Gasper, Jayden Gasper, Hunter Velasquez, and great-grandchildren Roman and Kenzie Velasquez. He is also survives by many other extended family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Michelle Gasper and one brother James Gasper.

Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa.
