Alamosa Resident, James Armon Ellsworth, passed away on Jan. 10, 2023. He was born in Del Norte, Colo., in 1949 to William and Betty Ellsworth. Armon graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1967 and then enlisted in the United States Army. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, and after the war, he returned to Alamosa and received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Adams State College.

He married Karen Steffens on March 4, 1978, in Monte Vista, Colo., and began working a variety of jobs before settling into his work at the United States Postal Service, where he served for over 30 years, retiring in 2018. In his retirement years, Armon continued to serve the community working for Meals on Wheels, in an effort to help those in need.

Throughout his life Armon enjoyed the outdoors, including duck hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, and hiking. Armon also had a passion for building, whether it was working on model airplanes, or woodworking in his shop. Beyond his hobbies and passion for the outdoors, his greatest passion was his family, and he loved taking every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Ellsworth, his wife Karen, and his three children, Rebecca (Dwayne) Epling of Kamas, Utah, Joslin (Zachary) Moody of Aurora, Colo., and Mark (Sarah) Ellsworth of Chestertown, NY, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, sister April (Dan) Myers of Colorado Springs, and countless extended family, and fond family members.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and gratitude for everyone's kind expression of sympathy and all who have reached out in support of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alamosa Volunteer Search and Rescue.

Services will be held on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at 1 p.m., at the Living Water Bible Fellowship in Alamosa, Colo. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at the San Luis Valley Cemetery in Monte Vista, Colorado.
