It is with great sadness that the family of Jake F. Torres announce his peaceful passing surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 27, 2024, at the age of 97. Jake was born to Fred and Carolina Torres on Sept. 22, 1927. Jake spent his childhood in Capulin, Colo., on the family ranch that he later took over.
He loved working his chosen profession of farming and ranching until he retired in 1995. Dad was very innovative, loved working with his hands and would work on projects until the task was completed. He considered himself very blessed and was abundantly generous with anything he had to all he knew.
He cherished and appreciated all his visits from family and friends and all the gifts that were ever given to him. Jake was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War from 1948-1951. He was a devoted and faithful catholic and was a member of St, Joseph Catholic Church.
Jake married the love of his life Ramona Velasquez on Aug. 20, 1960, and raised their family in Capulin, Colo. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by his family and taking many family vacations. He was a wonderful father, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and gave us all the tools needed for living a loving and faithful life.
His greatest accomplishment was his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his relationship he had with each and every one of them. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
Jake is survived by his loving children Naomi (Karl) Kramer, Debbie (Bob) Phillips, Irene (Damian) Arellano, Patricia (Robert) Gomez, Jake (Crystal) Torres, John Torres, Veronica Vondrake, grandchildren Krystal (Thomas) Josh (Zach), Jared (Liz), Trevor, Jalen (Alyssa), Robert Jr., Jacob, Gabriella, Jesse, Allyssa, great-grandchildren Anyah and Tyce, sister and brothers-in-laws Rose Torres, Rose Ortega, Larry Lucero. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends who meant so much to him.
Preceding him in death were his parents Fred and Carolina Torres, first wife and mother of his children Ramona Torres, second wife Margaret Munoz, siblings Milo, Julia, Emma, Andrew, Louise, Gilbert, Arthur, Raymond, Mel and Phyllis.
Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Capulin Cemetery with full military honors.
