ALAMOSA— This Saturday Nemesis Promotions brings mixed martial arts to Alamosa for a good cause. Angelo Duarte was a local fighter based out of Alamosa who trained with Grizzly MMA. Over the course of his career he posted 7 wins with 2 by rear naked choke. Duarte had a day job as a tree trimmer and last summer Duarte passed away in a power line accident.
In Duarte's memory Nemesis Promotions is dusting off the High Altitude Face off moniker for the eighth time and donating all the proceeds to Adams State University in the form of the Angelo Duarte Memorial wrestling scholarship.
Adams State’s own Isaac Lopez will be fighting for the first time this weekend. Lopez will be facing Kemoy Anderson at 185 pounds. As Lopez is a wrestler his game may revolve around body control and ground and pound while Anderson figures to look to stand and strike as his one win was a TKO by ref stoppage at 58 seconds in the first round.
Acosta was born in Durango, Mexico and is currently 2-3 in his professional career. Both fighters may look to take it to the mat given Yohn’s extensive wrestling resume and Acosta since his two wins have both come by submission. The action kicks off tonight at Plachy Hall at 6 p.m.
