Capulin resident Ivan Alex Quintana, 53, passed away April 20, 2023, at the Pikes Peak Hospice at Penrose Medical Center in Colorado Springs.

Ivan’s life began in La Jara, Colo., on Nov. 3, 1969, the son of John Quintana and Vayola Valdez Quintana. He married the love of his life, Brenda Vigil on April 26, 1997, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin.

Ivan owned and operated Ivan’s Appliance and Small Engine Repair in Alamosa for many years. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. Ivan volunteered for the Capulin Fire Department and was a firefighter for more than 18 years. He was also a member of the San Luis Valley Early Iron Club. Ivan was a people person and gained many friends over the years.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Quintana of the family home in Capulin; his parents John and Vayola Quintana of Capulin, Colo.; his children Camille (Jeffrey) Ruybal of Bountiful, Colo., Christopher (Olivia Marburger) Quintana of Houston, Texas, Santana (Dylan) Ross of Alamosa, Colo., Alina (Casey) Marquez of Manassa, Colo., and Alexander Quintana of Carmel, Ind.; his grandchildren Ada and Bentlee Ross, and Talyn Marquez; his siblings Maria Jacquez, Vangie (Cesar Venegas) Espinosa, Johnnie (Cindy) Quintana, Carol Gurule, Phyllis (Papo) Baez, and Amanda (Brian) Gurnsey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph Quintana and Gilbert Quintana, his sisters Juanita Quintana and Lucille Quintana, and his favorite uncle Willie Valdez.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Capulin. Interment will follow services in the Gomez Cemetery.
