Intersection work begins in Monte

MONTE VISTA – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Technology Constructors, Inc. (TCI) will begin work on Monday, June 25 at the intersection of Colorado Highway 15 and 2nd Avenue. The location will receive new signalized lights and curb ramps in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

PROJECT SCHEDULE & TRAVEL IMPACTS

Work at CO 15 and 2nd Avenue is scheduled to begin Monday, June 25 and expected last until mid-August.

Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. In special cases these hours may be extended.

Weekend work also may occur if a need is determined and agreed upon.

During construction, pedestrians and motorized vehicles can expect sidewalk and one lane closures.

All motorized vehicles and pedestrians should expect travel impacts throughout the construction project.

BACKGROUND

The new signal stems from a region-wide intersection priority study that was conducted in 2014-15.  Local agencies nominated over 100 locations across Region 5 for the study.  The intersection of CO 15 and 2nd Avenue sees between 2,100 to 3,300 vehicles per day. Due to the traffic volumes, the town of Monte Vista and CDOT included the CO 15 and 2nd Avenue intersection in the study.

“The study analysis determined this intersection eligible to receive safety funding to build a new traffic signal and fulfill CDOT’s continued commitment to better accessibility on state highways for all users,” said Julie Constan, CDOT Region 5 Traffic and Safety Program Engineer.
