Longtime Ft. Garland resident Glen Edward Wiescamp, 88, passed away on Aug. 24, 2023, at The Rio Grande Rehabilitation and Health Nursing Home in La Jara, Colo.
Glen was born in Alamosa, Colo., on April 29, 1935, to William and Terena (Van Iwaarden) Wiescamp. He married Gay Ann Donner on Aug. 1, 1957, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Glen was a hard-working farmer, he and Gay Ann farmed, and made their lives together in Ft. Garland. Glen’s passion was woodworking, especially working on a lathe making bowls, lamps and vases. Glen enjoyed music and loved to sing hymns.
Over the years, Glen found another passion in growing tomatoes in a greenhouse. He spent the last several years learning to grow delicious tomatoes leaving a tremendous enjoyment of this endeavor to his children and grandchildren.
Glen is survived by his children: Sue Ann Smith of Ft. Garland, Colo., Paul Wiescamp (Renee) of Blanca, Colo., and Peter Wiescamp of Blanca, Colo.; his brother Wilber Wiescamp of Waverly, Colo., and sister Nancy (Wiescamp) McKeever of Leawood, Kan.; his grandchildren Clayton (the late Jennifer) Wiescamp, Christian (Elizabeth) Wiescamp; and his great-grandchildren Jonna, Kate, Layf, Daniel, Ellie May, Benjamin, George, Henry, and Anne Bea.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife Gay Ann; his parents William and Terena Wiescamp; his brother Dale Wiescamp; his sister Donna Wiescamp; and his granddaughter Morgan (Wiescamp) Skadberg.
Cremation was chosen and a private family service will be held at a later date.
