Gerald James Carle, 95, longtime resident of Alamosa Colorado, passed away June 30, 2018, surrounded by family in Norwich Connecticut.
Jerry was born July 8, 1922 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Claude and Irene (Schwartz) Carle. Jerry served in the Army in WWII, in the Philippines at the 29th Army Hospital in Manila. After returning from the Army, he owned and operated a family business, Valley Sheet Metal, in Alamosa Colorado. He married Nora Esther Haddon at the Broadway Christian Church in Pueblo Colorado on Easter Sunday April 6th, 1947, who he cherished for 62 years of marriage.
He was a parishioner of the First Baptist Church in Alamosa Colorado. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 1297 and served as a past Exalted Ruler. He enjoyed league bowling and spending time with family. In Alamosa, he raised his only son, John, with whom he enjoyed fishing, camping and chaperoning trips with the Alamosa High School Marching Band.
He is predeceased by his wife Nora, who passed away in 2009, at which time he relocated to Norwich to be with family. He lived at Saint Jude Commons, where he enjoyed the company of many friends for which he was grateful. Jerry was an honest, hardworking and agreeable man. Jerry was always ready to join in family events and was particularly proud to attend graduations, concerts and ball games of his three grandsons, Remy, Jason and Simon.
Jerry was predeceased in death by his parents, his wife Nora and his sister Maxine Heck. Jerry is survived by his son John Carle and daughter-in-law Terry Rankin-Carle of Norwich and grandsons Remington, Jason and Simon Carle. He will be remembered by his extended family in Connecticut and dear friends.
A calling hour will be 10 to 11 AM Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home 82 Cliff Street Norwich, CT with a service to follow at 11 AM at the funeral home.
