Georgia Agapita Morales, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Nov. 1, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 4, 1951, in Conjilon, N.M., Georgia spent her 73 years filling the lives of her family and friends with warmth, creativity, and love.

On Oct. 11, Georgia and her loving husband, Frankie, celebrated 57 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a family full of treasured memories, heartfelt laughter, and delicious traditions in their community of Del Norte, Colo.

A woman of many talents, Georgia was highly skilled at quilting, crocheting, and oil painting. Her prize-winning quilts, cherished by her family and admired by many, remain a beautiful demonstration of her artistry. She was equally known for her impressive performance in the Alamosa Round-Up Demolition Derby, where she became the first woman to beat the men — a victory she held dear.

Georgia had a generous spirit, volunteering her time with the VFW, and she spent 10 years in the Del Norte school district teaching English as a second language to students of all grades.

She also had a love for all things homemade, like tortillas, jams and jellies, and she loved tackling DIY projects of all kinds. While she didn't always enjoy cooking, she provided countless memorable meals for her family, bringing everyone together for gatherings filled with love and laughter. She was famous for her love of chocolate cake for breakfast and Rice Crispy treats at any time.

Georgia was born into a large, loving family, one of twelve children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ubaldo and Felicita Esquibel; her brothers, Felipe, Toby, and Iram; her sisters, Joann and Annabell; and nieces Lisa Duran Atencio and Toni Alarid Garcia.

She is survived by her siblings Ninfa Alarid, Bernie (Jake) Burden, Sarah (Bene) Duran, Chris Esquibel, Denise Esquibel, and Ricky (Tina) Esquibel, along with special nephew Ubaldo (Nina) Esquibel, dear niece Valerie Espinosa Abeyta, as well as countless other beloved nieces and nephews.

Georgia is also survived by her cherished children: Francine Morales Ellis, Maria (Rob) McConnell, Frank (Teresa Artist) Morales, and Claudia (José Gonzalez) Morales. Her legacy continues in her ten grandchildren — Toby (Holly) Morales, Francesca McConnell, Amanda (Taylor) Pubins, Marisa (Jordan) Reece, Sophia McConnell, Azaeli Morales, Xoxi and José Gonzalez, Alan and Shia Montanez — and her five great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Georgia was a steadfast supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and in lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made in her honor to St. Jude's.

Georgia’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Seven-Mile Plaza with reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus building in Del Norte.
