Antonito resident Geneva S. Gurule, 62, passed away April 18, 2017 at her home under Hospice Care, with her loving family by her side. Geneva was welcomed into the world on September 11, 1954 in Alamosa, Colorado, the beloved daughter of Vincent Jose Jiron and Bertha Edith Salazar Jiron. Geneva was well known through the community through her involvement with the schools. She was a selfless, kind hearted and loving person who was a friend to all. Geneva enjoyed doing puzzles, going gambling and to bingo as well as fishing. Her greatest joy in life was the time she spent with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her loving husband Andrew E. Gurule of Antonito, CO; sons Phillip J. Jiron of Antonito, CO; step-father Harold Abeyta of Antonito, CO; grandchildren Lishae Jiron, Shania Jiron, Jasiah Jiron, Joslyn Quintana, great-grandchildren Athenna Baroz, Alias Baroz, Breyden Sanchez, Audianna Sanchez, sisters Monica Jussel of Denver, CO; Natalie (Anthony) Gallegos of Antonito, CO; Carla Abeyta of Alamosa, CO; Tammy (Mario) Barela of Antonito, CO; brothers Joseph Jiron of Denver, CO; Anthony (Verna) Jiron of Antonito, CO; Randy Abeyta of Denver, CO; Dwayne (Lindsey) Abeyta of Antonito, CO. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Geneva is preceded in death by her parents Vincent Jiron and Bertha Abeyta and one brother Eric Abeyta.
Cremation was chosen. A Vigil Service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at a later date. The arrangements have been placed in the care of Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
