Gaspar Antonio Casias, 92

Antonito resident Gaspar Antonio Casias, 92, passed away April 25, 2017 with his family by his side. Gaspar was born on November 2, 1924 in San Antonio, CO, the son of Jose Max Casias and Sofia Martinez Casias. Gaspar was a Veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland Central Europe.  Gaspar was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, godfather, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed watching football, baseball, wrestling, westerns, fishing, ranching and especially spending time with his family. 

Survivors include his wife; Maria Casias of Antonito, CO; daughter Lorraine Casias (Daniel Espinoza) of Antonito, CO; sons Ernest (Louise) Casias of Albuquerque, NM; Marvin (Tina) Casias of Antonito, CO; and Jasper (Irene) Casias, Jr. of Antonito, CO; sister Stella Casias of Antonito, CO and brother Serafin (Natividad) Casias of Antonito, CO; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gaspar was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Lorraine Casias, brothers Joe Casias and Ben Casias and sisters Celina Trujillo and Theresa Trujillo.

A Vigil Service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos, CO.  Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM, also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at the Ortiz Cemetery with full military honors.  The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
