Frederick and Mary Havens

Frederick George Havens, 94, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the Veterans Community Living Center at Home Lake, Monte Vista, Colorado.  Fred was born in Toledo, Ohio to William G. Havens and Mary E. (Dartch) Havens on December 14, 1930.  Fred served in the army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.   He received an honorable discharge and enjoyed telling stories of his service.   

Mary Delores (Cudney) Havens, 91, passed away on February 28, 2025 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, Colorado.  Mary was born in Grand Rapid, Michigan to William H. Cudney and Dorothy V. (Green) Cudney on March 10, 1933.   

Fred and Mary were married February 22, 1971.  They each had five children, and blended the two families.   Fred was preceded in death by two of his children; Robyn K. Havens and James Dale Havens.  His surviving children are Cindy Macdonall (Paul), Sandra Palinkas (Brad) and Donald Havens, all of Tampa, Florida.   Mary’s surviving children are William Havens of Alamosa, CO; Debra (Havens) Jones of Pueblo, CO; Karen (Havens) Eastman of Shepherd, Michigan; Thomas Havens (Marilyn) of Alamosa and Mary (Havens) Owens of Alamosa.  They also shared 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. 

Fred and Mary grew up in Grand Ledge, Michigan and both enjoyed ice skating.  They loved traveling and spent their later years as snowbirds, visiting family in many different states.  They moved to Alamosa in 1978, and in between their travels would make their way back for a season or two, ultimately residing there permanently since 2011.  

It was a commonly held belief among the family that Fred and Mary would be unable to live without one another, often stated they would die withing three weeks of one another. As it turned out, it was only three days. Fred and Mary Havens were loved dearly and will be missed greatly.   

A double grave side service will be held at the Veterans Cemetery at Home Lake in Monte Vista, Colorado on March 8, 2025 at 11:00 am.   A viewing will occur at Rogers Mortuary in Alamosa, Colorado between 5 pm and 7 pm on March 7, 2025.  A meal following will be held at Calvary of Monte Vista Church at 2160 Sherman Avenue.
