ALAMOSA – In addition to the Alamosa High School girls, 15 additional basketball teams from the San Luis Valley participated in regional action this past weekend.

Centauri boys

The fifth-ranked Centauri boys team posted a pair of regional wins at the CHS gym.

The Falcons defeated Platte Valley 62-41 on Friday and they scored a 61-32 win over Bayfield on Saturday.

Centauri took an early lead on the Broncos as it led 21-5 at the end of the first quarter. Centauri led 33-25 at halftime and 45-31 after the third quarter.

In the game against Bayfield, Centauri took an 18-3 lead after the third quarter. It extended the lead to 31-13 at halftime and 49-28 after the third quarter.

Centauri (25-0) will face Yuma in the Class 3A State Tournament quarterfinals Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the University of Denver’s Hamilton Gym.

Centauri girls

The third-ranked Centauri girls basketball team also won two games in a Class 3A regional tournament at the CHS gym.

The Lady Falcons defeated Liberty Common 61-20 on Friday, and they defeated Ellicott 67-28 on Saturday.

The Lady Falcons took a 20-6 lead after the first quarter against Liberty Common. They led 39-10 at halftime and 47-17 after the third quarter.

Centauri scored 17 first-quarter points against Ellicott, 21 in the second quarter, 14 in the third and 15 in the fourth. Ellicott scoring by quarters was unavailable as was individual statistics in both games.

Centauri (22-3) will play Wiggins in the state quarterfinals Thursday at 7 p.m. at the University of Denver’s Hamilton Gym.

Sanford boys

The Sanford boys team won two games in a Class 2A regional at the SHS gym.

The Mustangs defeated Two Roads Charter School 79-29 on Friday and Heritage Christian 52-50 on Saturday.

Score by quarters and individual statistics were unavailable against Two Roads Charter.

Against Heritage Christian, the score was tied at 13-13 after the first quarter and Sanford led 25-24 at halftime. It had a 43-38 lead after the third quarter and held off a late Heritage Christian charge in the fourth quarter.

Individual statistics were unavailable.

Sanford (20-5) will face Simla in the Class 2A State Tournament quarterfinals Thursday at Blue FCU Arena in Loveland at 5:30 p.m.

Sanford girls

The Sanford girls team also won two Class 2A regional tournament games and will advance to the Great 8.

The Lady Mustangs defeated Holyoke 48-15 on Friday and Gilpin County 49-23 on Saturday,

Statistics were unavailable for either game.

Sanford (22-3) will play Hoehne in the Class 2A quarterfinals Thursday at 4 p.m. at Blue FCU Arena in Loveland.

Sargent girls

The Sargent girls team won two games in Class 2A regional action at the SHS gym.

The Lady Farmers defeated Crowley County 57-34 on Friday and Heritage Christian 36-30 on Saturday.

Against Crowley County, Sargent led 12-5 after the first quarter, 31-12 at halftime, and 42-28 after the third quarter.

Kandace Pargin led the Lady Farmers with 24 points, followed by Angelise Garcia with 14 and Kimmy Pargin with 12.

In the Heritage Christian game, Sargent had a 13-9 lead after the first quarter, 26-17 at halftime and 30-23 after the third quarter.

Kandace Pargin again led the Lady Farmers with 17 points.

Sargent (20-5) will face Merino in the Class 2A quarterfinals at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at Blue FCU Arena in Loveland.

Monte Vista boys

The Monte Vista boys season came to an end on Friday as it lost to Yuma 66-49 at Yuma.

Alex Marquez led the Pirates with 18 points, followed by Azariah Hurtado with 14.

Monte Vista finished the season with 10 wins and 13 losses.

Monte Vista girls

The Monte Vista girls team was defeated by Yuma 37-32 Friday at Cedaredge.

The Lady Outlaws led 9-8 after t5he first quarter, 21-16 at halftime, and 32-21 after the third quarter. The Lady Pirates made a charge in the fourth quarter which fell five points short.

Individual statistics were unavailable.

Monte Vista’s final records was 11 wins and 12 losses.

Center boys

The Center boys team’s season was ended on Friday as the Vikings lost to Byers 60-31.

Jaiden Martinez led the Vikings with 10 points, followed by Yanixan Padilla with nine.

The Vikings had a final record of 11 wins and 13 losses.

Center girls

The Center girls split a pair of reginoal tournament games at Hoehne last weekend.

The Lady Vikings defeated Dayspring Christian Academy 30-21 on Friday, but lost to Hoehne 58-26 on Saturday.

Center took a 5-3 first quarter lead against Dayspring Christian, but the Lady Eagles led 11-9 at halftime. DCA extended the lead to 19-15 after the first quarter, but Center came alive in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles 15-2.

Center was led by Ximena Miranda with 14 points.

Against Hoehne, the Lady Farmers led 16-5 after the first quarter, 28-10 at halftime, and 49-15 after the third quarter.

Presley Wilson was Center’s top scorer with 13 points.

The Lady Vikings’ final record was 17 wins and eight losses.

Del Norte boys

The Del Norte boys team ended its season with a 61-32 loss to Haxtun Friday in Littleton.

The Fightin’ Bulldogs led 14-7 after the first quarter, 25-13 at halftime, and41-23 after the third quarter.

Tytus Atencio was Del Norte’s top scorer with eight points.

The Tigers had a final record of 11 wins and 11 losses.

Del Norte girls

The Del Norte girls had their season come to an end on Friday as they lost to Haxtun 36-32 in Revere.

The Lady Bulldogs led 11-8 after the first quarter, and 21-15 at halftime. The Lady Tigers led 24-22 after the third quarter, but Haxtun regained the lead in the fourth.

Emma Parra was Del Norte’s leading scorer with 16 points.

Del Norte had a final record of 13 wins and nine losses.

Sierra Grande boys

The Sierra Grande boys team hosted a Class 1A regional this past weekend. However, the Panthers split the two games to end the season.

Sierra Grande defeated Wiley 63-47 on Friday but lost to Elbert 51-36 on Saturday.

Jadyn Martinez led Sierra Grande against Wiley with 25 points, followed by Aron Ojeda with 17.

Rolando Najera led the Panthers against Elbert with 14 points, followed by Martinez with 10.

Sierra Grande’s final record was 19 wins and six losses.

Sierra Grande girls

The Sierra Grande girls season came to an end with a 50-37 loss to Cheyenne Wells Friday in Fleming.

Statistics were unavailable.

The Lady Panthers’ record was 14 wins and 10 losses.

Sangre de Cristo boys

The Sangre de Cristo boys team saw its season come to an end with a 69-22 loss at McClave on Friday.

The Cardinals led 18-6 after the first quarter, 34-13 at halftime, and 56-19 after the third quarter.

Statistics for the Thunderbirds were unavailable.

Sangre de Cristo’s final record was 12 wins and 11 losses.

Creede girls

The Creede girls team’s season came to an end on Friday with a 57-11 loss at Fleming.

The Lady Wildcats took a 25-3 lead after the first quarter. The lead grew to 43-5 at halftime, and 51-9 after the third quarter.

The Lady Miners’ final record was 13 wins and 11 losses.
