ALAMOSA— A structure fire that brought Alamosa County firefighters and deputies with the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) to the scene on Thursday night is being investigated as possible arson.
As ASO’s Division Chief Ken Anderson told the Valley Courier, ASO deputies and Alamosa County firefighters were dispatched to 5483 Griego Road in Alamosa County at 5:22 p.m. on Thursday, December 5,
Upon arrival, deputies and firefighters identified the fire as involving an outer building, a garage that was not attached to the residence on the property. The building was a total loss.
An investigation into the incident is in progress, led by the Division of Fire Prevention and Control and the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office.
“We are attempting to establish cause of origin and whether this fire was set intentionally as an arson or was accidental,” Anderson says. “That cannot be determined until the investigation is complete, but we will provide additional details once we have confirmed the cause.”
Anderson further stated that, at this time, no one is believed to have been injured. It’s unknown how long the fire had been burning before emergency personnel arrived on the scene but, Anderson says, the fire is still smoldering and not fully extinguished yet. At 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning, firefighters were still on the scene to prevent any flare-ups.
