Fern M. Nielson, 94, long-time resident of Sanford, Colorado passed away February 1, 2019. Fern was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 35 years and was a retired Post Master in the Sanford, Colorado Post Office. Fern was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she had several callings. She worked in her earlier years in the Relief Society, and was active in the quilting activities. Fern knitted several dozen afghans and kept busy with sewing and knitting projects.
Fern was born January 31, 1925 in Lyndall, Utah, and attended high school in Delta, Utah. She met Ralph Nielson while working in Salt Lake City, Utah and were married June 7, 1944. She lived in Portland, Oregon where the twin boys Gerry and Gary were born in 1948. Ralph and Fern later moved back to Ralph’s hometown in Sanford, Colorado where Sue and Ron were born.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband Ralph and sons Gary and Gerry. Fern has two living children: Sue Inama of Grants, New Mexico and Ron Nielson of Sanford, Colorado.
At her request there will be no viewing or funeral. A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Sanford Cemetery. The family will have a special memory in our hearts forever for the kindness of this special lady.
