Felix “Gene” Eugene Sierra, 66, of Del Norte, Colo., died unexpectedly on Jan. 30, 2023. He was born on March 19, 1956, in Del Norte, Colo., the son of Felix Sierra Sr. and Nellie Rael.
Gene was very athletic growing up, participated in track and field and held the state record in shotput. His passion for track and field led him to become a track coach and share his knowledge. Aside from track and field, he would spend time in the outdoors fishing.
He later married the love of his life Charlene Atencio in which they shared 39 wonderful years together. Together they raised three children, Rena; Julian; and Jason. And they enjoyed life’s greatest treasure with five grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Charlene Sierra, Alamosa, Colo., his children Rena (Joey) Nicholas of Parker, Colo.; and Julian (Cindy) Conejo of Roxborough, Colo., his grandchildren Lance Atencio; Alexis Atencio, Joren Nicholas, Neriah Conejo, and Josiah Conejo, as well as extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and son Jason Atencio.
A Celebration of Life will be held 10 a.m., Feb. 4, 2023, at Gateway Church located on 975 Grande Ave. in Del Norte, Colo. Following services Interment will be at Del Norte Cemetery in Del Norte.
