Fedelina Vigil

San Rafael resident Fedelina Vigil, 84 passed away May 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. Fedelina was born on June 24, 1940, in San Rafael, the daughter of Vicente and Margarita Madrid.

Fedelina worked for and retired from the South Conejos School District after 37 years of service. She was united in marriage to John Vigil Sr. on Dec. 31, 1959, in Antonito, Colo., and will have celebrated 65 years together in December.

Fedelina enjoyed sewing and making quilts. She was the caretaker of the San Pedro and San Rafael Church near her home in Paisaje.

She loved the time she spent with her family, especially visiting with her sister Lillian Martinez and her beloved granddaughters Miranda Corsentino and Lindsey Sandoval.

Survivors include her husband John Vigil Sr., sons Johnny Vigil Jr. of San Rafael and Master Chief E-9 Joseph Vigil of Granite Falls, Wash., daughter Janet (Raymond) Atencio of San Rafael, Colo., granddaughters Miranda (Derick) Corsentino of Fowler, Colo., Lindsey Sandoval of Alamosa, Colo., one great-grandson Conner Corsentino also from Fowler, and her only sister Lillian Martinez of Manassa, Colo. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Fedelina was preceded in death by her parents Vicente and Margarita, brothers Raymond, Vincent and Toby Madrid and Uncle Prudencio Madril.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. Interment will be scheduled for a later date. As per Fedelina’s request, the reception will be for family only.
