Chama mourns the loss of Esmeralda Vialpando, who peacefully passed away on June 12, 2025, under the compassionate care of Pikes Peak Hospice at the age of 92. Esmeralda was a deeply loving and strong woman who touched the lives of everyone around her, always ensuring that those she cared for knew they were cherished.

Esmeralda embraced life with a warm heart and a spirit dedicated to family. She was affectionately known as a "professional grandmother," cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones. Her talents extended beyond her family; she was a skilled seamstress who enjoyed sewing and creating cozy blankets. Known for her fantastic cooking, Esmeralda’s meals were a treasured gift to all who were fortunate to share at her table. She found joy in spending time on the family ranch, engaging in word searches, and chopping wood, reflecting her strong and active nature.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters Rose (Anthony) Aragon, Diana (Richard) Aragon, and Florence (Wilfred) Vigil. Esmeralda also leaves behind her siblings Mary Valencia, Esther Manzanares, and brothers Glenn Martinez and Alfred Martinez. Her legacy lives on through her 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws who will always remember her kindness and strength.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to a viewing and visitation on Friday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Romero Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Alamosa. A rosary service will be held on June 21 at 12:30 p.m. at the Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis, Colo., followed by a Mass to celebrate Esmeralda’s life.

Esmeralda Vialpando’s enduring love and unwavering strength leave a lasting imprint on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
