ALAMOSA - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ernie Wooten Sr., a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully on May 10, 2025, at the age of 79. He was born on July 20, 1945, in Piggott, Ark., to Frank and Loletta Wooten. 

Ernie is survived by his wife Berline, son Ernie Wooten Jr. (Rochelle), daughter Melissa Geringer (Troy), his grandchildren, Ian Wooten, Susan Howell (Justin), Aron Wooten, Kylie Wooten (Darren Gray), Audrie Wooten (Zach Harris), Savana Geringer (Jake Roberts), Laci Geringer (Brady Kuhns), and Miranda Geringer (Matthew Cooper), great-grandchildren – Nathan, Alyn, Hunter, Kaedyn James, Sophia, Alaina, Hazeleigh and one on the way Blake.  

He is also survived by his siblings - Wanda Layer, Willis Wooten (Jerris), Russell Wooten (Charlotte), and Linda Wooten, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Ernie graduated from Rector High School, Rector, Ark., and enlisted in the Army, serving his country right out of high school. 

Ernie worked as a Distributor for Little Debbie Snack Cakes for 19 years. He also worked for Pepsi Cola, drove a bus for Alamosa School District, and as of late, he drove a potato truck for Worley and McCullough. 

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and would attend all their school activities. His hobby was tinkering with his 1972 Ford Mustang and 1978 Ford F150.  

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Loletta Wooten, grandparents Mamma and Pappa Davis, Ed and Minnie Wooten, and brother Randy Wooten.  

Services for Ernie will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa. Interment with Military Honors will follow the Mass at Alamosa Cemetery in Alamosa, Colo.
