San Pablo mourns the loss of Elmer Augustine (Gus) Rodriguez, a beloved resident and true cowboy, who passed away peacefully at his home on June 10, 2025, at the age of 89.

Gus lived a life full of adventure and warmth, embracing his cowboy spirit with pride. Known for his love of riding horses and his deep affection for spending time with his grandchildren, Gus’ presence was a source of joy and strength to all who knew him. His friendly nature and camaraderie among friends were often accompanied by shared moments enjoying Crown Royal, a favorite of his.

He leaves behind a devoted family who carry forward his legacy: his daughter Carolyn Rodriguez, son Gerald Rodriguez and wife Beverly, and a loving group of grandchildren — Gerald, Justina, Reyna, Gerica, and Diego Rodriguez. Gus was also a proud great-grandfather, survived by Gerald, Sean, Sarai, Juanito, Genesis, Aaliyah, Aylah, and Marcellino.

Gus was hailed as a legend in his own time, a fierce cowboy whose spirit will long be remembered. His life touched many, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.

A viewing to honor Gus’ life will be held at the Rodriguez Ranch, located at 21857 County Road J.2, San Pablo, CO 81153, on Saturday, June 14, beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service.

May he rest in peace, riding free across the endless plains he loved so dearly.

The care of arrangements has been lovingly entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa. If you wish to leave the Rodriguez family online condolences, please visit RomeroFuneralHomes.com.
