Longtime Center resident Elizabeth “Betty” Skeff passed away on January 24, 2019 in Del Norte, Colorado.
Betty was born May 19, 1932 in Trinidad, Colorado to Kelley H. Skeff and Margaret Sawaya Skeff. Betty graduated from Center High School as Valedictorian in 1950. She was a business owner and entrepreneur in Center, Colorado for most of her life. Betty was a charter member of the Town and Country Club and was the primary creator of the first Center Christmas parade. Betty enjoyed singing and was involved in many weddings, funerals and cantata’s as well as the community choir. She had a very caring heart and was always willing to help a person or family in need. She will be remembered for her caring nature and her generosity.
She is survived by her brothers and sister; Sadie Skeff of Center, Colorado, Raymond (Colette) Skeff of Monte Vista, Colorado and Kelley M. (Linda) Skeff of Brookdale, California, her sister-in-law Nancy Skeff of Canon City, Colorado and her nieces, Meredith Wentworth (Mark) Haugstad, Alexis Perrin (Adam) Lipson, Barbara Jo (David) Creel, and various great nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Herbert K. Skeff, Roger K. Skeff, Joseph K. Skeff and George K. Skeff, her aunts Julia Sawaya, Salma Sawaya, Marie Sawaya, her uncles John Sawaya, George Sawaya, Najib (Georgette) Hadad her nephew Doug Skeff and her niece Linda Marie Skeff.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday January 30, 2019 at St. Francis Jerome Catholic Church in Center. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 29, 2019 also at the church in Center. Interment will follow services in the Monte Vista Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the San Luis Valley Regional Hospital, Rio Grande Hospital or to the River Valley Inn and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
