Elipio Duran

Elipio R. Duran, born on Jan. 23, 1941, in New Mexico, to Anastacio Duran and Rosa Casias, was welcomed home to his Heavenly Father on June 2, 2025, at the San Luis Valley Regional Health Medical Center in Alamosa, Colo., surrounded by his loving family. 

Elipio was united in marriage to Candie Duran until her passing and later spent the rest of his life with his partner, Francis Lovato Cisneros, He was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Kerin Duran, who meant the world to him. 

A dedicated rancher from a young age, he cherished every moment spent on the ranch and the time he spent with his cows, enjoying fishing, music, watching westerns, and embracing the great outdoors through camping, fishing, and horseback riding. Most importantly, he treasured the time spent with his loving family. 

Elipio is survived by his partner Francis Lovato Cisneros; his daughter, Kerin Duran, and her husband Yassine Kriness of Antonito, Colo.; his grandson Carlos Martinez, 32, and his partner Shreya of Española, N.M.; grandson Victor Cardona, 15, of Antonito, Colo.; great-granddaughter Philecia Martinez of Denver, Colo.; and his sister Betty Lou Duran of Colorado Springs, Colo. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anastacio Duran and Rosa Casias Duran; his first wife, Candie Duran; his grandson, Davidlee; and siblings Vianes Casias, Gloria Casias, Eduardo Duran, Jose Olivio Duran, and Jimmy Duran. 
Services for Elipio Duran will include a viewing on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Ortiz Catholic Church in Ortiz, Colo., followed by the recitation of the rosary. The Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos, Colo., with interment to follow at Ortiz Cemetery.
