San Luis resident Eligio “Lee” Madrid, 90, passed away July 19, 2018 at his home under Hospice Care surrounded by his loving family. Eligio was born on November 28, 1927 in San Luis, Colorado, the beloved son of Juan D. Madrid and Cirila Gonzales Madrid. He was united in marriage to Cora Mae Ford on November 26, 1955. Eligio was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who was a member of the S.P.M.D.T.U, and a volunteer firefighter in San Luis. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, and loved Colorado sports teams in general, being outdoors in the mountains, praying and spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his daughters Gina (Jesse) Aragon of San Luis, CO; Donna (Alfredo) Hernandez of San Luis, CO; Lori Espinoza of San Luis, CO; sons John Madrid of San Luis, CO; Michael (Margaret) Madrid of Yelm, WA; Julio Madrid of San Luis, CO; 9 grandchildren Marissa O’Neal, Luis Madrid, Stacy Madrid, Angelina Espinoza, Julio Madrid Jr., Tomas Espinoza, MiAna Madrid, Katie Roybal, Randi Espinoza, 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters Inez (Felix) Barela Wilma Lovato. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Eligio was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Cirila Madrid, wife Cora Mae Madrid, son Edward James Madrid, brothers Ernest Madrid, Julio Madrid and one sister Gloria Belmontez.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 7:30 PM at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 10:00 AM also at Sangre De Cristo Church. Interment will follow at the Sangre De Cristo Cemetery.
