Edward (Ed) Anthony Buhr passed away at his home, on March 7, 2019 at the age of 88. He was born on June 18, 1930 the eldest child of Joseph Augustine Buhr and Zelda Luster Buhr. He was raised in the Mesita area where he attended school and married his high school sweetheart Lela Virginia Lentz on July 12, 1950 in San Luis, Colo. He farmed with his father until 1967 when he moved his family to La Jara and started his trucking business known as Buhr’s Trucking, which he operated until the time of his death. He passed his love of trucking and tractors, to all three of his sons, who followed in his footsteps.
Ed lost his wife Lela tragically on April 7, 1993 after 42 years of marriage. He was blessed to meet and marry Irene Buchanan on June 4, 1994. Irene passed away on April 9, 2016 after 22 years of marriage.
Ed is survived by his five children: Virginia (Greg) Howey, Dolores, CO; Larry (Shirley) Buhr, La Jara; Beverly (Perry) Shawcroft, La Jara; Tony (Darlene) Buhr, La Jara; and Darrell (Tracy) Buhr, La Jara. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
When Ed married Irene he “adopted” her children and grandchildren. Her children are Arlene Harms (Ted Andersen), Monte Vista; Burton (Joy) Holland, Omaha, NE. and Rhonda Jo Coppersmith, deceased.
He is also survived by his brother Richard Buhr, Denver and his sister Margaret Reynolds, Cedar City, UT.
A viewing will be held Thurs., Mar. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Romero’s Funeral Home in Alamosa. Funeral services will be held Fri., Mar. 14 at the Feed Store Church located between Alamosa and Monte Vista at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial in the La Jara Cemetery.
