ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School boys soccer team hosted an out of state opponent on Saturday as Taos (N.M.) came to town.
There was only one goal scored in the game which was recorded by the Tigers in a 1-0 loss for the Mean Moose.
“I think it was an unfortunate goal to leave behind on a free kick,” said Alamosa coach Hector Garcia. “I think we played well in terms of actually handling the ball. It was just unfortunate, but we’re going to work on it and keep going forward.”
The only goal of the game came in the eighth minute after an Alamosa hand ball which resulted in a free kick for the Tigers. Joaquin Rose then put the ball over the outstretched hands of Mean Moose goalkeeper Todd Broyles and into the net.
Alamosa did have an opportunity to tie the score later in the first half, but the shot bounced off the crossbar.
Alamosa managed only three shots on goal all of which were stopped by Taos goalkeeper Ozias Miller.
The Mean Moose defense did limit Taos to just eight shots on goal, seven of which were saved by Broyles.
“I think we had to make some adjustments in the second half and play with a little more intensity pushing up on the ball in the second half,” Garcia said. “We did end up with a little more offense in the second half, but we still couldn’t put the ball in the net which was unfortunate.”
Alamosa (0-7, 0-2 Intermountain League) will return to conference play on Friday as it hosts Montezuma-Cortez.
“We’re about in the same place in the standings,” Garcia said.
Game time is at 3 p.m. at the AHS stadium.
