Dr. Cecil Craig Layton passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 7, 2024, at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in La Jara, Colo. Born in Ruislip, England, on July 28, 1961, to parents Allan and Valerie Layton. Throughout his 63 years, Craig’s radiant presence was a source of joy to those fortunate enough to know him.
His academic pursuits culminated in a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Colorado, an achievement that launched a distinguished 37-year career as a dentist, bringing smiles to both Colorado and New Mexico communities. His dedication to his profession was matched only by his dedication to his family.
Those left behind to carry on his legacy are his daughter Keslie Kidd and her husband Jeff and their daughter Scarlett; his son Andrew Layton and his wife Kadee and their two children Kinley and Jett; his parents Allan and Valerie Layton; brother Stuart (Bobbie) Layton; sister Bekah (Kip) Sowards and their son, Craig’s nephew, Patrick Sowards; brother Eric (Jennifer) Layton.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Craig loved his family more than anything. He loved his three grandchildren - Scarlett, Kinley and Jett - with every fiber of his being. They were his pride and joy for the last 7 years.
Adventurous and selfless, Craig had an unparalleled zest for life and loved traveling. Craig never knew a stranger, leaving behind a multitude of friendships.
Cremation has been chosen, and a celebration of life will be held later in Cortez, which will be announced through social media and local newspapers.
